If you lost your reel yesterday (or on Sunday, April 25) or you know someone that did....and can identify it. I found it and will return it to you.

If no one claims it.....it will be eventually turned over to Werfless to use on his IV trips.

It cannot be yours because you only fish San V and that hidden lake way up in the hills. As besides I thought you told me you have a fear of crickets. There are tons of crickets down near the SD River so I doubt you would be fishing down there so I doubt it is yours. These crickets gathered quickly next to me when I was picking up the reel off the ground. It was weird and it would be pretty scary for you eh?

Sorry mcfish....but the reel is getting closer to be soon in use down in IV with Werfless or one of his buddies using it.

Speaking of crickets, when I was a kid, my dad took me with him to El Centro since he had some business down there. He told me I could swim in the motel pool while he was working! I got up bright and early the next morning, ran out to the pool, only to find the pool with 3" of crickets on the surface! Not an inch of water visible! So..I was stuck in El Centro with no pool! You can keep your stinkin crickets...and El Centro!

I remember when you would go to a restaurant and the crickets would be piled up a foot deep outside the front door! I remember they would dig trenches around the fields, fill them with some flammable liquid, and set them on fire to keep the crickets under control. Don't think you could do that these days!

Early 1970s , Holtville opening of dove season . Under the street lamps you had to be careful driving , the truck would spin out on the smashed crickets . Think , biblical plague style . Couldn't hear yourself think in the grocery store , the produce area was something to see . WR

I can only imagine that the wonders of Chemistry and more Corporate type farming rather that the old family farms is the answer to that . Just my guess . And what Werfless said . There a bunch more Ibis than there used to be as well . WR

I believe the cattle egret plague put an end to the crickets... They get eaten before they can ramp up numbers

You sure can see the predators go after the insects when they flood a field , as the water rises so does the food . Just like on the ocean the birds know where the bait is . Judging from what the temp is Santee today , a dip in the tile drains must feel pretty nice out there about now . Tight lines . WR
