idk if its been mentioned on this thread but are there any legal ways to deter them? I read somewhere that you can shoot them with BB guns or fire flares at them but I don't know how effective or legal these methods would be. By "legal," I'm of course giving the grey definition

They are heavily protected, you can’t touch them as far as I know. Basically nothing you can do but move.

There are a few thing you can do at this time .deterring_qa.html This pretty much explains it , if you have gear in the water there are a few legal deterents that can be applied hit some of the other links on this tab for specifics . Commercial and recreational fishermen do have some options . Hope this helps a little . Tight lines !

Yeah, indeed useful info in the link reference https://www.westcoast.fisheries.noa...vals/potential-deterrence-methods-10-2018.pdf
"AdditionalPotential Methods for Fisherman: Visual Repellents/Noise Makers:•boat hazing, circling•pounding on hull•horns, bells, whistles•pyrotechnics (e.g., bird screamers, bangers, underwater firecrackers, cracker shells)Physical Contact:•Slingshots ( no metallic/glass/sharp projectiles)•non-toxic and water soluble paint ball guns•non-lethal ammunition (e.g., rubber bullets)" especially when combined with some of the choices at Wrist Slingshots : Professional Slingshot;Hunting Slingshot;Powerful Slingshot;Slingshot Manufacturer-KING SLINGSHOT if you don't use rubber bullets. Just make sure to load with some rock and aim in the head...
