I'm hoping to get on a full day out of Seaforth as I have a gift certificate from last year and I’m wondering If the rigs I caught my YT on last year will suffice, I'm pretty sure I’ll be fishing whatever bait they have for that day, I was planning on going lite maybe a couple of lures but I know that when the bites on I’ll be throwing some bait to make sure I have a chance of hooking up. With that said how will these rigs work or do I need something else or should I rent a rod?

    1. Shimano TDR 8’6” medium heavy 15 to 30lb line, with a KastKing Rover Baitcaster
    2. Shimano FXS 8’ medium heavy 15 to 25lb line 3/4 oz to 4oz spinning rod with a 6000 baitrunner spinning reel

What else will I need floral leader, mono leader, hooks weights I’m sure I’ve read it before but it’s always great to get the last east info, Thanks in advance

I’ll let others chime in on the gear. From my recent experience, I’ve wrangled a 20# in with a Lexa400.

Don’t plan on doing that again, but I will add that I was soaking one while re-tieing my fathom20 and it got bit...

I’m going on a full day Thursday out of Seaforth if anybody wants to join in, let me know?
I’m going light maybe a couple of lures but I’m going to use live bait mostly I picked up some owner size 2 and some 1-2-1.0 circle and some short sink light wire. How much weight do I need?

What worked for me was 20lb flora leader and number 4 hooks, if the fish are finicky.

Some folks even went to 15lb flora. I would do a 1/4 or 3/8 egg sinker to help get the bait down also.

I caught my YFT on 9ft shimano tervana an inshore rod something close to that name with a Okuma BG 5000 reel
also 6'6 rod with a Penn Phantom reel, and a 8' California with a lexa 400 Hooked and lost at the boat once with a 80g coltsniper. all others caught were bait.

But fish were caught by others with flat falls and surface Irons and Poppers.

I would bring a roll of 15, 20, and 30 flora and just in case. and number 1 - 4 hooks.

I’ve got 15 and 20 Flora I don’t use it often because I find it to be stiff and it seems to have coils in it I prefer mono but I’m going with what everyone suggest.

A lot of guys are swearing by straight mono too. I brought fluro last time but never tied it on. Bringing some again, only planning to use it if I'm not getting bit. I'm on the SD tomorrow...hoping for good fishing for all of us this week

I've seen many breakoffs using 15lb, just saying.
If you wanna start light, maybe 17-20 FL...

I tied a 4ft or so 20FL leader to my 30lb setup so I could hot-swap if needed.

the Seaforth guys (I went out last week on a 3/4 day- Pacifica) tied 20# flouro, that they supplied, on all my mono rigs, (I had five rods, some w/ 25#, some 30#) and tied #2 hooks on. All at no charge for this and they tie great knots, as they seem to do this for a living! ;/) Funny, in about an hour all of the rigs had either the hooks cut off in the fishes faces IMG_6354.jpg or broke off during the fight. Had them do it all over again between stops, they are such a blessing. Have fun.

Oh, ended with landing 4 of 6 YFT fought, up to 20# and limit of Skip Jack. Boy do these fish fight, such fun.

Jesus Christ people call or flouro not flora. We are not looking at A long lost ecosystem for tuna.
