i have heard that the full moon shuts down the lobster fishing, and I have heard it has no effect. What are your experiences/thoughts on hooping the fuller moon phases? I have not had very good luck on full moon fishing, hooping or R&R. What % of hoopers go in the bay vs ocean. MB vs SD? Just a little more information...no family secrets! Thanks!

Full moon or not. We just go as long as there's no rain or dense fog. We don't think it matters

Time of day seems the most important than anything else. Rain has never stopped us either as long as you have waterproof gear.

OB if you want more action.
Shelter Island if you want keeps but less actions.

From my experience at the pier, OB has more shorts/lobster in the nets but Shelter Island has bigger one so your net will come up empty most of the time but when there is a lobster in there. It's overall bigger and probably a legal size.

Most of my legal has been from Shelter Island, bring a rod and catch a lot of mackerel while your waiting. That will cut the cost of bait down to pretty much $0

Went out yesterday in the rain, wind, in front of the storm. Nets in by 3:30, 25-35 feet deep, soaked till 5:45, not even a short! Did 3 more drops in different places in the SD bay, (including the east side of Zuniga jetty), all for nothing. 1 short total, for the whole night! Not even rays- weird! Finished by 10-the weather was not too crazy, a little rain and wind, choppy.
