On Thursday decided to treat myself to a Barrett solo trip. I went onto ticketmaster to see if there any spots still available. I got one for Sunday and figured I deserved it. Spoke to Laurie at the gate and she said that there were only 6 boats reserved for the day. It was so nice just driving down to the dock with no rushing, parking right there and just heading out.

I got to my first spot near where the arms split and had my line in the water by 5:27. 5:29 first fish on a blade. 5:35 second fish flipping a jig. Both solid 3lbers. By 6:30 I had 10 and by 9 I had 20. I just switched back and forth between blades and jigs. If it ain’t broke why fix it? I ground it out till 1:30 but then it was just too damn hot. Managed a few on a shad colored Rattlin Rap on boilers in the middle. All solid healthy fish all day. Did sit down for lunch and got a bluegill on a mini jog also while I was eating my sandwich and drinking a cold beer. By 1:30 my soft plastic trailers that were sitting in a bag were too hot to touch. It was then time to go. Great day all around.

On a side note I saw Laurie cruising around Pine Arm and she asked me if I had just dropped someone off on the shore and what my last name was. I gave her my name and said I did not. She said that someone came in on a tube reservation and took a boat. Then dropped someone off on the shore. When she came back around again I told her where the guy was laying on the shore as he dove to the ground when he heard her approaching. She went over there but not sure if she found him. She said that she had the tube reservation name and the guys license plate and that they got reported to Fish and Game.

People always want to get away with stuff. I think that in the end their little shinangins will cost them much more than the price of the boat reservation. I have no tolerance for that stuff. Pay for your privilege to fish that awesome body of water. Finished the day with 25 bass and 1 bluegill. Such a fun day. Cheers to all and thank you all for your continued reports. It’s fun to read how everyone is doing even if I can’t be on the water.

Nope! CB. I got it at Miramar in 1998. Black and Blue is always my go to jig color at Barrett.

Sounds about right. Last few months the morning bite has been insane as always but then it dies off around 1pm. hitting around 30 fish in the morning hrs are fun. I tend to stay until the evening but from 1-4 its hot windy and slow. Great Post!
