Left the dock at 5:30, already 2 tanks of bait. Windy and sloppy right outside OB pier. Had to slow down couple times. Got to a little south and east fo the tuna pins. Started looking got 3 or 4 on a couple stops on the Yo yo mostly 6 or 7x size. Nice grade of fish, 12 to 20. I didn't get bit. Then a lot of running past middle grounds off the gun sight. Then went all around from south weather side of N Island. Stopped for a quick shot at pukie and nothing. The weather turned for the better at least and the wind died a bit. Then back to the middle grounds for some whitefish and sculpin. After everyone caught some we started on the hunt again. We didn't have to go far but the schools were spooky and had been hit before for sure. Found 1bnive school and I threw the surface iron. They were up and eating the chum. Got slammed my second cast and got him in after he got his head turned once when I had to go under someone. Got him on the boat and throwing again. About the 3rd or 4th cast I put it right on the money. Then got to see my 17 lb yellow come up and eat me Tady 45. Boom thing blew up on it and I put the wood to this one. And then that was it. I more stop and 3 more for the boat. The crew, Andrew, Fisher and Marco were great and saved a lot of fish from being lost. Matt never gave up on the hunt. My nephew Andrew is holding 1 of my fish. He's been working on the Diego for a few years. Doug makes awesome burgers in the galley. About half yo yo and half surface. They did bite the fly line bit we only got 2 or 3 all the way to the hold. Great trip, going again on the 16th. I won't take so long to post next time. Tight lines and it's time to get some tail!

Nice work, good detailed report. Andrew is the man! Cool dude and he's saved more than a couple fish for me from tangles.

Well, something came up and Andrew wasn't gonna makenit either. So I canceled and ate the $100. They did get 1 yellow so hopefully with the better weather tomorrow will be better. They did fish the rockfish hard and got some nice reds and other rockfish. Good luck tomorrow Chris Tight lines!

    Sounds like today’s ride.
1 YT in the bottom of the 9th, mighty Pukey comes through again.

I did happen to bring home the bacon so to speak. 3 reds, a couple whitefish, and a chucklehead.

Got real choppy for us during the pm on the windward side of the islands.
Long story short; if you want to catch, use 12-16oz on a quad gangion and squid
I was using shrimp flies tied above a 12oz JAX and did alright
