I've been doing some reading about this stuff - not much - but some.
Apparently you need to have 220v installed at home - which we don't - to speed up charging.
My house is getting close to 60 yrs old and most of the wiring is original. So if I got an electric car I'd need to invest in getting 220VAC installed - but chances are that the wiring will need to be updated to match code - so that will be an expense. I bring that up because there are arguments out there that I'd save money by not buying gas and installing solar. Oh yeah -there's that cost too.
But they also say you never charge all the way to 100% - 80% is fine. The remaining 20% seems to take much longer.

People are going to dinner and other stuff while their car charges - but that wouldn't work if you drive any distance.

By then, the Dems would have outlawed fishing because of animal cruelty..you won't need a boat! You can keep your gas powered car...your registration renewal will be $2000, every 6 months. Gas will be $20..an ounce! And, a big red X will be painted on your garage door! Kamala will be your Governor!

They have batteries - just don't know how long they last before needing a charge - and like the guy said they are running it at 55mph power for pumping.

You already have 220v at your house. It's divided by two bus bars in the breaker panel, each bar will be 110 volts.
If you don't have room for more circuits in the box then you would need to upgrade the box.
If your breaker box can handle it they would install a 220 volt circuit breaker and run new wires to the outlet for charging the car. The 220v circuit breaker would hookup to the two 110v bus bars.
The old house wiring shouldn't be effected.
A 110 volt circuit breaker would also work, just would take longer.
If the grid went down you would need a small generator to charge up the car.
Since your not paying any gas tax at the pump your going to have to pay an extra fee to make up for the tax.
They will get you one way or the other.

I read a story about this. The EV people will still support this way of charging because they say the engine is more efficient than the one in your gas/diesel car. ????

I’m sure people said the same things to Henry Ford.

Change happens. Embrace it and enrich yourself with the journey or be left behind.

Not seeing the connection of using gas to charge an EV to reduce emissions with Ford's concept of assembly lines.

More electric vehicles will mean more pressure on the power grid. More pressure on the power grid will mean the need for power plants.
All of this pie in the sky sounds good but there are side effects.

Was just thinking about how often the firehouse guys forget to plug the shorelines into the apparatus - both engines, trucks and medic boxes.

Not only that, but there needs to be a plan to install charging stations everywhere.
I've read that it is possible to charge overnight for 8+ hours on 115VAC 15amp that should give you 50 miles for the next day. That would be a big problem if power goes out and you need to evacuate. Are we expected to install solar and those battery systems? That's another $30k on top of buying an electric car. By then it should be a lot more.

Ok, I do NOT support the anti combustion engine push. I still think the global warming push is a joke because ocean levels rose prior to the industrial revolution....proof-Indian artifacts in 60 feet of water off La Jolla.
BUT........ in the big genset charging picture, one engine is replacing multiple engines so it’s like 3-4 steps forward, one step back. It makes sense. Still stupid.
