Searched the threads, and I bought one years ago when I fished with my dad over by crown point - but no idea what happened to it - sold it maybe? So looking for another now that I fish with my son/grandkids at the bay.

If you like DIY projects you can build one yourself, or make it a project to work on with the grandkids. There are plenty of videos online showing you how to make one.

But if you are looking to just buy one you can find them at the Dana landing tackle shop.

I have a Alvey stainless steel GS pump, that I like sooo much better than my homemade PVC one... I would recommend them, but I think Alvey has gone out of business... Has any one tried the " Novateur" from So. Africa?.. It looks like they sell them in PVC, Alumn and SS... I doubt that I'll ever need another one, but I was wondering how the Novateur compares to the Alvey (Which is very well made and performs well)

If Dana doesn't have the Alvey pumps anymore they can be bought online. Sportsman's Outfitters has them in stock.
I have three Alveys and they work fine...but not better than a pvc pump that's in good shape.

Maybe I have to work harder to get the shrimp up here in NOC/LA than in San Diego, but in a long bait gathering trip, I can really tell the difference between using the Alvey and my homemade PVC pump... They seem to slide in and out of the sand/mud so much easier.... I thought I built the PVC one pretty well, but maybe not.... A better made PVC one might work better, I suppose... Most of my fishing buddies have traded in their PVC type for the Alveys.....

    You're right...
The key to having a good pvc pump is to use it a few hundred times, so the bottom edge of the tube is sharp and slides into the sand easier.
Also...I almost never pump in areas that have hardpacked sand, because my shoulder's worn out. ....only nice loose sugar sand for me. In areas with fine, hardpacked silt the stainless pumps are much better at penetrating the sand....
