I always used to tie buck tail jigs but a year ago I noticed the softness of my border collies' fur depending on body area.. Buck tail is stiffer and reminds me of a harder grade of plastic; dog fur is softer and contracts and expands with the slightest motion. I'm sure both fur types catch fish, but if I were to use a hair jig under a float, I'd go dog. These are proof:

Actually Gulp smell like my dog's bad breath. Ugh! If I used hair from its hind quarters and fish hit the hair jig I guess you could say they had sh** for brains.

I used to live not far from Stroud Tackle on Morena Blvd in the 70's and Bill wrapped many sabre rods for me over the years. I had a English Springer spaniel named Casey who was always with me when I went in the shop. Bill never let up on how he would love to just do a small trim on her tail and tie a few flies and Eileen would tell Bill your not cutting anything off Caseys tail.
