After spending a fortune on ground squirrel bait the past couple of years with nothing to show for it, I decided to try my hand at trapping. If nothing else, you get to see the results Apparently, they are not too smart. I have now caught six in six days using the same trap at the same spot. Neither of my other sets has show any results. This one is at the base of an old hollow olive tree.

    Yes
Yes, it is the 110. I got them online, through Amazon I believe. I have done almost all of my shopping online during the pandemic, even got RoundUp online. I am four days away from my second vaccine shot. Maybe I will be a little more relaxed about getting out after that.

Not to be pushy, but I hope you let them cool off so the parasites get off the dead pest prior to you handling..including fleas which carry bubonic plague.

How do you dispose of them? I don't have an air rifle or other handy weapon and it's hard to club them in a cage. It would be nice to just toss them in the back of the truck and take them down the road a mile or two to be someone else's problem, but that is illegal. The Conibear is a kill trap.

I have some industrial size nitrile gloves I wear. I never touch the animal. I just open the trap and let it fall out, load it on a shovel, and bury it.

I either shoot them, or drown them. If they are out a few hours in the sun they don't survive that. I like your trap ,and it seems most humane, but the dog could end up wearing that.

110 and squirrelnator are both excellent traps, as are those one hand set "revenge" gopher traps (drown em) for areas in turf, etc. I always preferred baiting my 110s. Now we don't bother with any of it and just use erosives, we had a serious infestation that I cleared in three weeks with erosives. These days, the large size gophenator traps might be viable as well...

You know, I grew up in Arkansas and Louisiana. We hunted tree squirrels and ate them regularly. Young ones got fried and older ones got stewed with dumplings, or my favorite, in gumbo. I would not think of eating these nasty ground squirrels we have out here. As 5spot pointed out, they might even have fleas that carry bubonic plague.

With a nod toward Fat Tuesday, we are having gumbo today. I actually thought of the squirrel gumbo, but our gumbo today will be chicken and sausage.

We have the Squirrelnator, I use a .22 pellet hand gun with a shot in the brain while they are in the cage then use a plastic bag to pick them up and drop them off in the trash.

I live trap, then shoot and throw out in the field. Birds get them by the end of the day

Essentially, it causes corrosion to artery walls... By the time the rodent starts to have a problem, well... Reduces secondary chemical exposure as well

Any suggestions for rats? I have 4 spring loaded traps set up. Peanut butter as bait. After 3-4 nights, only one trap went off with nothing in it. I know there's at least one rat in the area I set up the traps - motion detect night vision camera told me.

I've had better luck using pre-chewed tootsie rolls over peanut butter...
