Well. Its summer now. First year at UCSD is all done. TIME FOR FISHING!! Should be fishing a lot more frequently from now on. Excited.

The big fishies came out to play today. Caught two of em. 20-25 lbs. These shovelnoses are everywhere and are the craziest fish to fight and haul in. So strong. Also caught a few croakers and bonefish. Everything really does love ghost shrimp.

Hooked into this silver/gray lookin fish. It was maybe 4-5 ft long from what I could see from shore. Kept coming to the surface and jumping everywhere. Peeling drag like it was nothing. Not sure what it was. Cut me off. Definitely wasn’t equipped to handle it. Any ideas what it was??? Let me know.

    Tight lines everyone. Stay safe.

    Sam

Nice job. That silver fish was most likely a California Barracuda.

That big? Eating ghost shrimp? Maybe…toothy tho. Might have explained the cut leader.

I agree fishing is way more fun than a UC of the socially dead sausage fest party.

I caught a barracuda on a sidewinder crab recently, it also cut my leader.

Most likely a needlefish based on the location you were fishing. They are all over that area.

Very nice size shovelnose. The crowds at the beach have been insane lately. Cool to see your spot isn't swamped.
