Few days late here, but went on a full day trip on the Grande. Left at 0530 sharp, and off to the bait tank. Fished a LC at the tanks with no luck. Fishing with a Phenix black diamond and Penn fathom backed with 50 lbs braid to 35 lb mono via FG knot. 20 lb fluoro leader and size 2 live bait hooks. Full boat with roughly 45 anglers. Trolled south of the Coronado islands with a few small scattered schools. Very few fish landed, with only 8 on the boat at 2:00 PM. Captain put us on a huge school of and the bite was wide open for an hour or so. Deckhands were awesome and handled everything smoothly. As pretty clearly resounded this year so far, they were only biting the lighter line, small hooks, lively bait. Lots of newer anglers and tangles were common. I ended up going home with 2 YFT, one a solid 25 pounder. Smoked the collars and had sashimi while cleaning up. Great trip - tight lines!!
