Problem is that she can say anything that she wants and have no fear of not getting re-elected here in California.

Nope. However, I think it is a good idea to stop polluting. Making all vehicles zero emission in 10 years will not happen. The GND implies all vehicles - so does that include all the cargo ships coming and going out of the LA and Long Beach harbors? That means they need to be run on batteries - batteries that don't need charging as they cross the Pacific. Yeah right.

I agree with you that we need to stop polluting. I feel like we have made huge improvements to reduce polluting over the past 30 years or so. Do you agree? I feel like we need to do it in a way that won’t be so intrusive on our freedoms that we hold dear...the freedoms that make this country so great.

You guys think the lead ban is bad? This GND or anything else that calls for a 20% carbon tax across the board would be the end of Sportfishing as we know it.

I think we have made improvements - but it is hard to think that after each rain when we are advised to stay out of the water. However, with the increase in the number of cars on the road, there isn't a big increase in smog that I can see.

Why would sportfishing end? No more lead weights?

Sportfishing as we know it...the sportboats will be a thing of the past. I imagine a lot of the private boaters will have a hard time getting out as well.

Improvements are needed , Storm runoff may need to be collected and treated , for beach pollution . It would be interesting to see us go back to large fleets of sailing ships . Nuclear power isn't likely in the hands of civilians , for large ships . Sport boats for short range may possibly converted to electric , however the displacement required for the extra weight may not be workable on current hull designs . The way the GND is suggested is probably undoable , at least in my lifetime . Then again when i was a kid, traveling to and landing a man on the moon was just a dream as well . In the meantime all we can do is to try to lessen our carbon / waste footprints the best we can and try to embrace the new technologies that are certain to come about . Just my thoughts.

Possibly. Another possibility is that even kayak fishing will become cost prohibitive for the average Joe. How are you going to get a kayak on a bus? Are any petroleum products used in the materials, production, distribution of kayaks?

    Most kayaks ARE petroleum products.

I would hate to see offroad vehicles phased out. Big fan of of trail riding here. Millions of people enjoy a getaway to the great outdoors with their motorcycles, ATVs, Jeeps, etc.

Carbon Dioxide CO2 is NOT a waste but a gas essential for the photosynthesis of the plants. Without CO2 there will be no life on Earth. Here is what one the very few honest politician said about this GND The Green Bad Deal
"Like all forms of socialism, the Green New Deal suffers from what Ludwig von Mises identified as the “calculation problem.” Knowledge of the most efficient use of resources is conveyed by prices set in a free market. Prices reflect individuals’ subjective preferences regarding the best use of resources. When government uses force to remove resources from the marketplace, it makes it impossible for the price system to function, leaving government officials and private citizens unable to determine the most efficient use of resources. That is why every attempt at government management of the economy inevitably reduces the people’s standard of living."
    I cannot say this better.

That's why it will never pass. I read that it is up for senate voting today and I'm sure there are a number of them who have power boats or other fuel burning toys.

Ds are calling this a political ploy (which it is indeed) and are instructed to vote "present".

There are very few freedoms that we enjoy that wouldn’t be adversely impacted by this. You think our kids are snowflakes now? Stand by...

Yeah, AOC is right. We have to do something or climate change will hit us hard around 2030. The problem is that we should be doing exactly the opposite of what is proposed by this GND. Also, short of polluting the Earth atmosphere on a massive scale, I don't think we can do anything significant to prevent the coming global cooling and new Ice Age.
