Apparently there's a grunion run predicted the first week of august (1-4) and i was hoping to head out & fish it. anyone have any experience or tips? I was planning on heading out to oceanside pier, and fishing around there, but if anyone has any suggestions, I'd appreciate it

Im new to all of this so do you use the Grunion for Bait? Or just fish the normal baits fir the fish that are running to eat the Grunion?

We bring a five gallon bucket with an aerator you can use a c rig or Cannonball rig but we use them for bait with small size 6 live bait hooks toss them out just past the breakers stand in the water and wait for the hit

I am going with a different perspective. Last time and a few times this year i have gotten owned.. just owned on my bass rod. Being that the braid is over 4 years old my knots are not holding as well and just yesterday lost 2 jigs to seaweed fishing the ocean. I am starting to realize braid is great but not as a main source of line. So i am going with mono top shot / braid backing also bumping rod from med/light to just straight medium reel size from 2000 to 6000.

still going to bring old faithful bass set up and try for a fish on that first but if nothing then bait wait and soak.

The grunion are the bait, can only catch them by hand however. And everything trying to eat the grunion are being fished as well.
