Hey Guys first time poster just got approved by the mods :emoji_metal::emoji_raised_hands::emoji_thumbsup:

New to SD area, trying to get bit. I don't have a float tube yet (gonna buy one soon). Until I do I've been trying to fish from the bank at a few lakes. I have had zero luck, not even getting bites or follows. Seems like the biggest issue is the lakes are shallow near the banks so it's hard to get these winter bass who I'd assume are deep now.

So I'm looking for advice on bank fishing spots at the lakes. Not looking for advice on the bays, I want to catch me some lake bass. Advice on techniques of course as well. Also looking for technique and bait advice. Also, I appreciate the live bait and wait guys on here, but I am not one myself so not looking for bait and wait advice.

Some background on my recent failures and general thoughts and musings:

In Jan I've fished and skunked at: Murray, Jennings, Otay

    I've thrown at each location:
Football and finnesse Jigs - craw trailers - green pumpkin and brown colors
Senko - Texas and whacky - Green Pumpkin, Watermelon
Deep Crank - one of the strike king kvd ones that can get to like 15-18 feet
Spinner - through a smaller spinner with a colorado blade - White

Now I did buy drop shot weights, hooks and some roboworms in oxblood. I understand out here with the deep resoviors the dropshot is the way to go. Reason I didn't throw it is because I couldn't seem to find any drop offs from the bank. Seemed like throwing it out shallow wouldn't be much more effective than other techniques. Is this wrong? How shallow do you like to fish your drop shots? Also what dropshot bait are you using?

So where can i find the most shoreline with deep water access? I heard lake Ramona is fishable from the bank, also someone mentioned miramar?

HELP MY SELF WORTH IS FADING QUICK I NEED BASS!!!

    Welcome!
You might try renting a boat. Now I'll step aside and let the people who know what they are doing weigh in. Good luck and don't forget to post reports when you do start catching.

Fishing from shore is a challenge because you don't have the use of a boat and sonar to find fish deep or shallow and structure. A shallow pond is easier, deep lakes not so much. The reservoirs I access drop fast to 40' right near the banks and I have no luck fishing them especially since the water is almost clear.

    Good Luck

Just hang on a little longer. Prespawn is almost here and things will get easier from the bank!

Take a day and head to the Imperial Valley.. jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, senko, etc all work fine.. those fish are hungry and unpressured, just make sure you bring the A game stealth wise, if you don't, you will swear there isn't a fish in a hundred miles..

It's because you haven't fished el capitan haha one of the better lakes for shore pounding because of the shoreline access. They aren't that deep and you can definitely get a drop shot out there

Hike in to Lake Ramona. Use light line, say 6lb. Set up your Drop Shot with a tag about 12". 4.5" robos. Cast out as far as you can. Drag back until you meet resistance. Stop and gently shake the line. If you do not get bit in a few casts, move along. Far side of the lake has been better to me. Most bass will be small clones, but my best from there was 7 lbs.

So, I see those canals when I drive to Phoenix. Can you just drive out there and start fishing? No concerns as to trespassing or anything like that? Aren't you on some farmer's property? Is it clearly posted where you cannot go? I have fished drop 2 and drop 5 as a kid, but that is all. (brock research)

I have more influence on the guys that prowl the canals I have trained/informed. Not up for taking a knife from a plastic chucker or getting my six year old beat up because I throw a gut hooked bass into the bucket (a threat happened when he was 4 with a calico, no joke), so I just stay away from the local lakes. Too expensive anyway, cheaper and quicker to drive to the IV, sad to say

    MrJigMan,

I would recommend you try these two techniques. Texas rig 8 to 9inch straight tail worm(Upton worms) in margarita mutilate III or chocolate blue vein. Use 12 to 16 pound line and 3/16 bullet weights.

Second try a 1/4 ounce shakey head with a zoom trick worm 4"to6", green pumpkin, and watermelon red. Cast them out as far as you can and drag back in with slow steady pull, and short taps or twitches of the fishing pole. For added success use some kind of scent on your plastics, smelly jelly, or Berkley gulp spray ar gool. With both techniques use long pauses, also known a dead sticking.

    Good luck!
