    Happy October everyone!
I’ve really enjoyed the Hodges fishing action this year. Lots of great fish for a lot of people. With only a couple weeks left I figured I’d head out and look for some fish getting ready for winter.

I headed out both Saturday and Sunday and managed 2 fish each day. Most of the fish coming from about a 10 foot depth on large worms. I saw a number of people doing the same. I did have a memorable moment on Saturday when I flipped a jig at a bunch of tules and it got stuck just above the water. When it released it looked like someone dropped a grenade in the water. I had a large bass BLOW UP on the bait. But I did get it on video!

I ended up not hooking the fish but the blow up was one of the best I’ve ever experienced. The fish was easily 6+ pounds but after close slow motion replay missed the bait. I felt like I was watching JFK…” Back and to the left. Back and to the left” so exciting to experience though.

Most of the fish that I have been getting there lately have been between 2.5-3lbs. Still fun for sure.

If you want more details or to see the actual blow up check out the video in the link. And yes there are beer tastings in the vid… Some people have asked.

See you on the water soon. Just figuring out the next adventures now and where to head next. What is everyone’s late fall and winter fishing plans?
    Cheers!
    Chris

Good job. Boy, that is one heck of an explosion. The best I ever had, and I've had my share, was at El Cap, in the back where it narrowed before getting into the tree flats, where a deep area came up to that giant boulder that greeted you on the left. I was on the other side of it, throwing into strong westerly wind and waves on a cold day in January, when nobody is supposed to throw top, with a 7" wood Lunker Punker. A fish went airborne on it, coming out of the water like a Triton sub coming up for emergency air from a mile down. This thing went about 6' into the air, taking, seemingly, 1/2 the lakes water with it. I thought a stick of dynamite hit the lure, and I had no idea if in the middle of all that water she even had the lure!!!? I just hoped she did as I reeled down on her as she landed, and then felt weight. YIPPEE. Ended up being a sixer.

Got that at Lake Miramar on a 12" live waterdog (back when you could still buy and use them). One of my fondest memories for sure. Plus I made the top 25 bass of all time list!

Try fishing at night along SD river in a float tube in some of the old gravel pits (bring plenty of DEET). When a bass explodes on a topwater, your heart will just about stop. Sounds like someone threw a cinderblock in the water just a few feet away from you.

Thanks! Fingers crossed on that one. Plus a couple got removed due to…unethical catching methods.

I agree for sure. Hopefully they’ll keep the levels better stabilized and that will help too.
