A friend of mine and I were discussing a near future kayak trip and he suggested we bring my hoop nets. I immediately shot it down as I didn’t think it would be worth it as I am under the assumption that Lobsters hunker down in their hiding places and rock piles during the day.

I based this on years of SCUBA diving experience. I have observed a whole different ecosystem at night versus the day. I have observed lobsters hiding in and under rocks in the day and lobsters marching at night.

Your thoughts? Any luck hooping during the day? Is it worth it?

I didn’t want to be a smarty pants. It was based upon my experience though I’ve never read this anywhere.....

Maybe not for langos.. But.. Rock, kelp and spider crab all wander during daylight for sure... 35 limit of crab is 10x better than a 7 limit of langos to me..

So if Crawfish are called Mudbugs in the Mississippi Delta...what is Spiny Lobsters name besides bugs? Langostas/langos?

Or did the B-52’s nail it with Rock-Lobster ......Obster?

I have only hooped for lobsters in the day! From shore even. And have caught 4-5 keepers each time. Just saying.....

It’s like they are waiting under a rock and when they sensed the sun going down… It’s like a race gun just went off
