No classes today so decided to head out to Hospitality around 1 pm, fishing the outgoing tide. Saw a lot of birds waiting on the rocks for some bait to come in (didn't happen in the time period I was there). Saw a halibut clear the water on the river side chasing mullet, but I lost it before I could grab my rod with an iron. Fishing was very slow, occasional nibbles and one taker on squid. Turned out to be a massive smelt that was about 14-15 inches. The camera angle was weird on the picture, missing about a solid inch from the tail end.

Drove over to TP around 5 pm, fishing the incoming tide. No noticeable wind, water was cold but manageable. Very little salad, extremely clear; perfect for a lucky craft but this poor college student doesn't want to spend $20 on a lure lol. Waves were small and tide was far out, meaning no surfers. Sunset was tremendously beautiful.

Fish activity was higher than I expected— two of us caught 8 croaker, 3 shovelnose, 1 leopard, 1 thornback, and 1 bat ray. Missed plenty of bites trying to take nice pictures. Kept the larger croaker and smelt for lunch tomorrow.

Dang! Great to see the YFC's. Last time I fished the surf it was a perch only affair. Thanks for sharing!

A lot of people fry them whole. Little fried fish sounds great till I start thinking of worms

It's interesting how people focus so hard on the smelt worms, then sashimi up a halibut that has eaten 4000 smelt without a second thought... Hahahaha
