I hear all this rave about hook up baits, but I hear more about how they don't last and are overpriced. Hmmmmm

They seem to work great if there is deep water, like a nice drop off. It's fun to watch your line slowly glide forward as it sinks until you get slammed! They are really soft though. I guess that's the payoff for the action. The prices are steep, especially with local tackle shop markup or shipping online.

Catch fish with no teeth and don't snag the bottom!

I average 6 spotties before the bait is too tore up. At about $3 a bait, you do the math!

They work great in the vertical presentation (i.e. Boats, kayaks, piers, boat ramps)..Not Shorepounding unless it's only a sandy bottom. I broke my average and caught 10 spotties with one bait on Friday! But it was tore up!

The hooks are sharp but thin. You snag a tough piece of seaweed, a rock or rebar etc and if your line doesn't snap first your hook will snap! I gave this feedback to Chad, the owner and he said he's never heard that happening! But he said if I send him 10 broke hook ones he'd send me a 3 pack! I was less than pleased so buyer beware!

I had 4 months of data I shared with him. I keep a detailed journal for Jan-April with over 500 spotties caught and gave him my feedback......I lost my journal for 2 weeks in May so May will be a crappy data month.

I figured he was getting excellent, free, market intel from someone who believed in his product. He dismissed me and my findings! Basically said I wasn't fishing his product correctly and to watch his instructional YouTube videos to learn how to fish them! Duh, watched them and watched them again........Oh BTW, his videos are shot in deep vertical water off Point Loma on his boat and he's using a $400 reel!

I still think Hookup Baits catch fish in the right conditions. I re-visited using them since I've been fishing off my kayak! Um, vertical fishing......I caught 8 spotties the first attempt, 10 spotties the second attempt and 1 today.......So if my data is correct.......That's 19 spotties in 3 kayak trips! The first 2 trips I used Hookup Baits exclusively. Today I used it for less than 5 minutes.....

You draw your own conclusions. They ARE Expensive! They do get tore up. The bigger the spotties (more sharp teeth) the more tore up they get. And because it's an open hook and not weedless, you will snag eel grass and everything on the bottom. So you will lose them to your line snapping or snap your hook.

The END......believe me or not. My homies, I fish with, joke about my journal.......My data is real SD----MB and SDB fishing experience.....

I haven't had one rip on me yet or have a hook break, i have seen them rip and hooks break on others but they were trying to open the gap. I also put tape on a few but haven't had to use them yet as i have had no problem with them ripping, i only thought of and did this because i heard everyone say they rip easy. The way i see them rip is when people hold the line suspending the fish while the spottie bites down and shakes, this will rip any bait. I lip mine right away with slack in the line also gotta be careful how you take the hook out that's the other way i have seen them rip on others. Just my experiences everyone go out and make your own if they work for you great if not use something else!

I'm probably going to fish oceanside pier the most so it should tear mostly from fish or get stuck on the piling with no return.

He's full of ****, I called him out on the San Diego Fishing group on Facebook awhile ago about the hooks breaking, he said that Owner sent the wrong ones and that he was getting the correct ones in and it wouldn't be a problem any more. That was six months ago, he knows the he is using the wrong ones but he keeps doing it because not enough people call him out and demand refunds, once that happens he might splurge and get the correct ones but then you can bet the price will go up.
