Surf tractor tacos are a favorite of mine. The body/tail meat comes out like a couple of tenderloins, treated right every bit as delicious, and as Coach said, improperly cared.. for I'd rather eat the south end of a north bound camel

Can't remember. I do remember that the meat had a yellowish hue. Then I remember reading that sharks urinate through their skin. (may or may not be true) I put the two together and decided I did not need to eat any more. It was not terrible.

The boys and I decided that we were going to try some new things this year. Got a pretty good sized SGF and bled it right away. Kept it cool for the trip home and then took the loins off like Bear6813 said (bit of to do, that was) then grilled it up the next day. Great tacos with flaky white meat. I would put it on par with hali or ling (believe that?). If treated right it definitely not a trash fish. And a pretty cool looking critter as well.
BTW, we tried sting ray too. Filleted the meat off the top and bottom of the wings. Reminded us of king crab.

When it comes to taco meat surf tractors are hard to beat.

Glad I could help yeah it's a bit of a chore but the meat to time ratio is well worth it I'm my opinion. I'm glad you enjoyed it and nice work

Hmmm. Not going to argue against the guitar fish, but I hope you’re being sarcastic with sting ray tasting like king crab.

Nope. Expected a mouthful of the floor of an overused men’s restroom, but pleasantly surprised. Soaked overnight in milk (just to be safe-er), patted dry, seasoned with S&P, sautéed in butter and a splash of lemon. Even my wife liked it (and wants us to catch more), and she’s pretty picky.
    I dog-dare ya! LOL!

Only difference from what I ate and sting ray is what they call it and how much you pay for it lol. Yes it is very tasty

Round stingray. It was maybe 14 inches across. Not much meat on the wings at that size, but enough for a sample.

Lol no need for daring. I’ve tried it. Has a very bizarre texture and taste like the bottom of the bay. Not a fan.

I would say spotty tastes like the bottom of the bay. But the round ray we had was clean, a little salty, and a little sweet. Maybe they taste like where they live? Sure is true for LMB and trout on the fresh water side of things. <shrugs>
Well, you’ll never know until you try it.
