Does anyone have any more information about Mike Long's recent 20 pounder at Lake Murray? I read about in the UT this morning, but there wasn't much info.

I'll tell you right now, if I ever catch a 22 pound bass, You are all going to know about it. You'll be hearing me yelling from the lake. Photos will be everywhere. I will be happy if I can ever get a 12 pound or above fish.

A #20 is a huge fish, but not the fish he is hunting for. He is looking for that 1 special fish. Mike has caught I think now over 400 fish over #10. I can't even imagine that number in my lifetime. Just a special fisherman doing a very good job at fishing.

When these big fish hunters go out, they are ready if and when that trophy comes along. It isn't an accident that they have cameras, tape measurers and all that is needed to document a record. They are ready.

In the case of us everyday fisherman, we are not nearly as well prepared to document our catch. It's really a lesson to be learned.

I can only assume that the fish was on a bed and being the fine fisherman he is, wanted to get those genetics back in the water! Great Job and Wow! 2 bigger than this one. Must be nice! haha

I you catch a record bass off of braid, will it count as "THE NEW" record bass!!?? Or do only certain lines count for the record catch?

That would make sense if they released bedding females during tournaments.
They don't until later, and far from the nest.

    just sayin'

There are line-class records, based on the breaking strength of the line used to catch the fish, and the overall record. The latter is the one that carries the real prestige...it won't matter what the line strength (or type) is used to catch it.

Just so long as the break strength does not exceed 130 lbs.
