SouthBay surf today on the weekly beach walk with the wife. One thud, didn’t feel like a perch, too big, but wasn’t pulling like a bat. Bring it to shore, and finally a butt! And on an LC. I wanna say 20” as the 1st blue tape is at 15” second is at 25”

Threw around the same hole for a final few casts and catch another shorty :)
All in all, 1st surf butt X2

Disclaimer: Reel did not touch the sand

I wasn’t until I got my 27 and a handful of shorts after that day. Now it’s going to get more fun for the next legal!

Do it. Definitely takes some time, but worth the catch every time. The few fish that I’ve caught on the LC have been pretty good sized

Line twist is an inevitability in the surf using spinning gear. In theory, it will even itself out each cast, but I would guess that depends on turbulence and technique.

I tend to stay with mono to fluoro primarily in surf conditions

    Nice nice.

Speaking of reel not touching the sand. I sometimes bring a roll up sand mat - and had all my stuff on it - two rods/reels, gear out. Sneaker wave came way up and took me by surprise. One reel (the better of the two) was spared, the other was not. It felt like a grinder after that. Took it home and took it completely apart. Cleaned everything out and lubed it. Re-assembled and it still isn't working correctly. Oh well.

I baby all my gear, I mean it’s money I earned. I rarely let my gear touch the floor in general. I treat like a woman’s purse; never lay it on the floor. Learned the hard way as a kid putting my moms purse on the floor when she asked me to hold it

only times I really experience line twists is with lighter Line. Short leader of 20# fluro may be too stiff for the most part. At least in my experience

Nice work! Put in time and be rewarded. I usually seem to find them a few at a time. 3 or 4 sessions with no flattys and then a few in a day. Last pair were about an inch short. Funny how many 20-21" halibut there are lol
