Took a staycation at the Bahia, got a room right on the water so I could fish and enjoy some brews. No issues for three days, just fun fishing with the kids.

Last night while soaking two rods with only my son and I around, female security guard walks up and tells me I can’t fish here. I tell her she is 100% wrong and why. A little back and forth continues until she tells us we can’t fish because we aren’t wearing shoes and it’s unsafe given the fish hooks (which were 100-yards off shore).

That’s when I told her she was harassing us and to call police or bring out the hotel manager.

No one should up of course, but I so hate false authorities and lies.

You’re lucky. One time I went fishing with a 12 ft surf rod off of harbor island. I cast the bait out 200 yards. A lady comes over and says I will hook myself in the foot. I disregard her, but then I accidently trip. When I stand up, I realize I am 200 yards from the shore. The water was 30 ft deep, so I decide to walk back to land. Then, I hook myself in the foot. It hurt.

Why would there be fishhooks where it is illegal to fish?

Renta cops are annoying. She didn't like you fishing for some reason, came up with an excuse, expected you to obey, and when you didn't she realized she couldn't do sh*t about it and gave up.

Gotta play her game and tell her, "Pursuant to Code 10-4RY-EggplantEmoji-79215, section 6, SD Fish forum members are permitted to fish here, with or without footwear."

I used to be a security guard supervisor...sounds like another weirdo who always wanted to be a cop and couldn't make it for whatever reason. She probably tells people she's in "law enforcement." A security guard has no more power/authority than any other citizen. I'm pretty sure it's against their company policy to confront anyone about anything. Their job is to observe and report. Some of these power tripping freaks actually end up in the police force too...One of them at my complex came up to me when I was in my garage and told me I couldn't be parked in front of my garage. Got cursed out and ran away with his tail tucked.

When I worked security at the stadium I asked a group of drunk guy to not stand in the handicap area. I asked them each time I walked by. By the forth time I was a bit more forceful. Well Mr HugeDrunkGuy starts a tirade screaming at me that I can't make him do **** because I only made minimum wage and I was a nobody. I camly answered that I didn't make minimum wage I made $4.00 an hour and that was just enough money to get his drunk *** kicked out of the game. EVERYBODY including all his friends laughed at him. He moved.

Getting someone kicked out of a game for standing in a handicap area. Perfect example on display here. I'm 110% sure they would not get kicked out of a baseball game for standing in a handicap area. I'm sure if a handicap person showed up and wanted to use that area they would have moved on their own without a second thought about it.

I love it. Glad you called her bluff. I think I might have even gone so far as to tell her to sit down as I called the hotel manager. "Hi.. your choice here.. either YOU come out here and gather-up your security guard and offer me a free stay for my trouble, or I'll have SDPD and DFG come get her and let them know she was acting on YOUR behalf as YOUR legal agent that tried to stop me from legally fishing. How would you like to proceed?"

Working security at U. of New Mexico has brought me similar experiences, lol. Might be a problem with her supervision/training; my dept. once went through 3 supers in a month or so--we were instructed that we "have real authority" and also "remember that you're essentially just a student, observe and report" in the space of a pay period.
