Last minute run to the IV yesterday after getting my kid in Ramona.. started off with a few panfish for bait in a ditch for bait, but reservoir fishing sucked, zero wind made life difficult other than a couple LMB on the spinnerbait, no cats though. Ah well, onto the hunt as dark came on. Got a couple random cats here and there, nothing too good until the first decent one, maybe 2.5# followed by a 1.25. Moonrise, the fish turned on, around 9:30, back gave up around 2:30 in the morning so I called it quits. Kid caught three or four of the keeper cats and the lone striper, think my numbers were around 30 to 40 or so total, six species.. lmb, SMB, bluegill, redear, carp, and channel cat, kid caught maybe ten or so. A decent panfish bite down south to round out our morning, found a pile of tumbleweeds holding a school in a canal, took what I needed for bait and left the rest for another day. All in all, a solid run, if a bit slow, a gorgeous sunset and sunrise that never disappoints as usual as well

Edit, 7th species, tilapia.. forgot to mention them by name, despite having them in the pix

Great run and beautiful photos. I’m surprised you didn’t get any tilapia.

WOW! That is by far the most unique and the most effort put out by a person wanting to catch some fish!! And catch fish you did!! Hell, I think driving down to the valley is a mish. You drive down there, fish ALL NIGHT !!! Not to mention the catch! I am in awe of you! Seriously coach awesome report. Thanks for showing us what’s possible if you really love to fish.

There is a bunch of different fishing to be done out there, tilapia, sunfish, crappie, LMB, SMB, channel cats, flatheads, carp, bait, fly, artificial... Really a unique place

It is unique for sure. I have been lucky enough to go down there at least a few times per year for hunting always. One time I got really lucky and worked in heber wiring a hydroelectric power station on the all American canal. I was there for three months and in the evenings (we stayed all week and got to come home every weekend)I was a bored 25 yr old married electrician so I brought my bass rod and some Mann’s jelly worms in motor oil and I would fish right in the boil at the bottom of the drop where we were working. I caught so many bass each night that the other electricians bought poles and I taught them how to catch the fish. Ah, the imperial valley is a very interesting place. You are so right.the Mount signal cafe !! I’ll never ever forget that place.

That’s laying an old fashioned beat down sir!!!

    Very well done as usual!

7 species in freshwater is nuts! Is that small mouthed carp looking fish a shad or juvi carp?

That's a baby tilapia.. I have a reliable bait making spot now for those, carp and bluegill deep in the north, works out great to start my trip that way
