Took the kid for the night IV run last night and this morning. MUCH nicer out than two weeks ago. Prime time is in the air! I busted off a very heavy flathead (20#+?), kid brought a tanker carp to the bank (I popped the hook, no way in hell I was climbing down there to retrieve that thing), maybe 20#. Biggest cat I brought home was an FCF shy of 7#, biggest carp brought back went almost six. Gut hooked one LMB that went in the cooler, a couple small tilapia, a small bluegill or two, one TINY striper and a baby smallmouth. Beautiful sunset and sunrise as usual. Bigger grade of fish out prowling, I caught more flathead catfish than I have in a very long time, only one not hooked in the gut (frown). But overall nice enough for a more laid back run than usual, I have to close some facilities for a dude later, so I needed to be vertical for that. Took the small coolers and ran out of space, the kid caught a few decent fish including a real nice channel and the bigger carp from the photo. Fun stuff, another day in paradise, I say... Even spotted a tarantula and a couple Hadrurus doing the mating/fighting thing (brought one home, new desk pet). Another great day in the books...

It's all good. Back was hurting a bit, certainly didn't want to eat the thing, no cooler space if I did, lol. Probably all just as well, all told.

Do you ever do the carp minnow or smaller bluegill thing for bait trying for the monster Flathead out there?

Used to in my younger years. Any more, not too much interest in doing so

Thank you for that sunset pic!

Very nice run there and very enjoyable, I imagine, with those temps.

Mosquitoes weren't too bad either. A little bit of wind and it would have been perfection

Great report as always Werf. In your opinion, what makes better table fare, the Flatheads or channel cats ?

Flatheads taste better at much bigger size. Channels have better texture though, at least if they aren't too big.

I know you didn’t ask me, but Channels! 100%! In my top 3 of eating fish! Especially from that clean Colorado River water out there in the valley.

Smell cleaner than chicken in fridge. I’ve never been much on leftover/second day seafood, but I’ve got no problem with El Centro catfish. The best!
