Went on an IV run despite my back being all jacked. Slowed down, and took it easy (and the numbers showed, waaaahhhh!). Didn't move as much, kept expectations low, didn't drive any more than I had to. Took lots of rest and stretch/walk breaks.. ah well, still got out for some quality time with the little girl (they grow so fast! WTF?). NEVER foresaw having a conversation with my kid about skin tags, Dear Lord... Anyway.. fishing was slow, left fish a couple times to explore new areas (yeah, I know).. threw back fish I might have kept, kept fish I gut hooked I didn't want, took pix only when I found something I wanted.. sorry for my incompleteness, I was in pain and in a moment with my kid.. we were talking, and all of a sudden, I am approaching Niland? Damn.. anyway.. as usual, shrimp for more fish of different species, bluegill chunks for bigger.. hooked an obese carp in a drain I wanted to check, not that heavy, but holy hell, fat! Back was hurting, so I didn't want to bend down to pick it up, hauled it up the bank, kept trying to bend down and I just couldn't.. fish pulled off, I felt bad, but just let it flop back downhill into the water. Thought about reaching for my phone, but grabbed my hip instead, sorry, no photos of the thing.. shortest fifteen pounder I have ever seen... Ah well.. kept five cats, one mini carp bleeding everywhere (washed for the photo), and one pathetic size striper who choked it in a random micro canal.. line wasn't behaving (my excuse), I did my best to remove the hook and revive.. wasn't happening.. to the neighbors for soup.. I would have done better if I was more mobile, more stealthy and worked the bluegill chunks more.. it's the life anyway... Thanks for reading my novel... Lol..

If there weren’t so many of them, I would tell you they were nasty and to not bother.
Honest truth: mildest fish I have EVER eaten. Best catfish by a country mile.

Don't Canal fish come out of the river? They do not spawn in the canals, right?

Canals are faster water, no matter where they spawn...

Is that caused from settling, because the water comes from the river as well.

As the clams, shad etc filter feed and get pulled out of the canals, the water seems to get clearer...

I suppose exercise removes toxins from fish just as exercise removes toxins from humans.

The canal cats, and especially the concrete canal cats, have nowhere to hide from the current their whole lives. Those river cats can spend all day napping in the tules, or stashed out under a rock, dock, concrete, etc, cover types almost entirely absent from the smaller concrete canals, especially.. those concrete canal carp fight like demons, too..

Somebody on here once compared those canal cats to Olympic athletes because they swim constantly.

Sorry to hear about your back, Coach. Sounds like me last week. I pulled my lower back trying to get a lug nut off a flat tire. I was pretty much rendered useless the next week or so.

Sounds like a good trip with your now young lady. Enjoy ‘em while they’re young, before you know it they’re all growed up. I don’t have any kids but I always treated my sister’s kids like my own and miss them as little ones.
