So I'm sitting at Harbor Island waiting for my mom to get off the plane, and I'm watching the water just for the hell of it. I hear two different crashes and I look just a little bit to my right and this huge halibut flying out of the water chasing what looked like a mullet or even a bonito. I didn't bring any fishing gear with me at all since I needed the room in the car for my mom's stuff. The halibut had to be at least 30"!!!
    Another missed opportunity...

Others may disagree, but I’d call that a fishing session! A scouting session. And you caught a glimpse of what’s there.

In hunting you should/often scout an area(hunt without gun) to know where to hunt.....The same applies to fishing....

So go back and catch that “Moby Dick” or “Walter” you just discovered....

Sounds like an epic "survival of the fittest" moment. Who will win? The hungry Halibut, or the nimble bait fish?

My first time ever fishing Tecolote Shores I saw one breach about 10 ft from shore. Never seen a hali do it since.

Also, dj thrillz, I thought for a second we were gonna be treated to a report of you actually putting a line in the water lol

I'm done with fishing reports. There will be one every so often, but even when I was still fishing everyday, I only posted once in a while. When it's hot, I'll say so. Or when I have something to brag about, which isn't often at all.

Well, more along the lines of you even getting a line in the water. I know that in my memory I've never seen a report from you on here. I also know that as far as I can tell you rarely at best get to fish at all.

Ha! I can totally picture him saying that stuff! However, my sorry attempt at an Australian accent would not do justice to the greatness that was Mr. Steve Irwin.

You'd have to do a little searching to find my reports. And the part where I haven't been fishing started about 5 months ago. I was fishing everyday, or just about everyday until I was elected to be the driver for all of my wife's family members. Now it's a mixture of that, and other things going on. I technically could wet a line everyday if I wanted to, but for the amount of time I'd get, it's just not worth keeping my stuff in the car, which was one of my wife's big complaints.

Yeah, I remember you telling me you've become the family chauffeur as of late. Something about golf comes to mind as well.

Yep. Since my grandfather made me get back into it, I spend the 20-30 minute open windows on the range or the putting green.

I haven't seen halibut do a full breach but have seen(several times) halibut come right to the boat when i was cleaning out a bait sled at the end of a fishing session in Mission Bay. Made me wonder about anchoring and doing a little chumming.

Saw it happen once, chumming bread for smelt. Hali breached right through my bait ball!

I've seen flying Hali's several times, but today's was by far the biggest one.
