Started early with an ok top water bite in Hauser (son caught a nice 4.5 pounder on a walking bait). A GIANT bullfrog (species #2) attacked my white frog (successfully released thanks to barbless hooks)! Then the bite went completely dead for us around 10:00. Couldn’t find them anywhere.

Headed to the dock for a shady lunch and to regroup. Got antsy and threw a curly tail jig from the dock and landed a 2.9 pound crappie (my PB crappie and species #3) and a couple bass. Back to the boat - still very slow until 1:45 when my son caught a 4.8 pounder and then it was non-stop action for the next 2 hours catching them on Neko rigged senkos - any shade of green - on the shore opposite the dock. Also ran into a small school chasing baitfish in the middle across from the dock. Hooked a couple there - and that is when I accidentally hooked species #4 when a Grebe came from nowhere and attacked my jerkbait. Nothing I could do. Thanks to my son’s YouTube fish watching habit and those barbless hooks, we pretty quickly put a towel over his head and safely released him unharmed.

Off the water at 4:45 with between 45-50 landed. All either before 10:00 or after lunch. Biggest was the last fish of the day at 5.2. Another 5 went over 4 (we weighed anything that looked 4). A few dink’s in the morning are included in the count.

    Love this place!

Third pic is a cool pose! ;) Did you get a pic of the bird or frog? I have had the misfortune of catching two Great Blue Herons!

Wow, what a great crappie. Haven't seen a pic of one that size there in ages...I miss when Barrett was loaded with monster crappie. Some nice looking bass too.

Sounds like everyone had a great day there on the 20th in the main lake area. Great report!

That was us. Thanks for sharing the tip that they wanted it on the bottom! I switched to the Neko Rig to get it down there quicker but still keep that senko presentation and it worked great!

In the chaos of frog and bird catching, I unfortunately didn't get any pics. I think my son may have footage on his go pro - so I will try and see if I can extract some pics that way and post at some point.

Did the Grebe sneak up on the bait from under? I have not seen them fly much.

Thank God for barbless hooks especially for those bull frogs. They are a pain to unhook with barbed hooks.
