Had a few awesome charters this past week with my client Charlie who was visiting San Diego to cross off a few shark species from his bucket list. At 73 years old Charlie had some amazing stories of fishing and hunting trips to Africa and the Amazon and was an outstanding angler as well. His main targets were Thresher Sharks and Leopard Sharks but he was more than happy to pull on other new species. Our first day we fished the South Bay for a wide variety of sharks and rays. We had actually caught just about every kind of shark and ray in the bay before we finally landed a smaller 3ft leopard shark. Did catch some huge brown smoothound sharks with one that was easily twice the 6lb 8 ounce World Record. Also some nice size shovelnose and butterfly rays. On Day 2 we decided to cut out the smaller bites and strictly target the big fish. First bite was just south of the Coronado Bridge on a fresh mack chunk under a bobber. After a fun fight and a few trips around the boat Charlie was able to land really nice size LEO. We measured her out at a hair over 61" (5ft 1 inch) and estimated between 35-40lbs. Tide changed and we moved to a spot closer to the Coast Guard Station. After about 20 minutes we had a double hook up on BIG fish. One under the bobber and one a slider rig. Unfortunately the fish decided to head opposite directions and we ended up busting one off. Fought the other fish for another 10 minutes before we get it to the side of the boat and see its and even bigger leopard than the first fish! Grabbed the tail and pulled her up for a few quick measurements and pictures before we let her go. Measured out at 65" and quite a bit thicker than the first fish. My guess would be over 40lbs. Fishtricks Any idea what one like this would weigh? Released her to fight another day and moved spots to tug no a few bat rays before we called it. Just another awesome day of fishing and weather in San Diego Bay! San Diego Bay & Inshore Fishing Charters | Risen Tide Sportfishing

when you say on a bobber, how far down are you letting the bait hang in the water?

I normally have it set a foot or two deeper than the water I’m fishing so the bait is resting on bottom

Dude IDK I don't even know what mine weigh. I haven't weighed a fish in years and the only reason I ever measured one was for the IGFA

It weighs "good fishing day" that's what it weighs
