Lots of birdpiles outside of marine street area today. The fishing was kinda wide open on the calico bass in 50' of water in heavy current. I managed to release dozens of calicos along with a large number of barracuda on the single-hook light iron, my favorite one - which unfortunately sunk into the depths after an errant throw to cap off an epic day out in a little slice of paradise.

Tomorrow should be great too with even warmer weather, light winds with Santa Ana's from the east.

I will be making a longer video, but here's a clip of a little action

The water at the launch was pretty nice. I shot video at 60 FPS and here are a few action captures.

Nice pictures and video. Those fish were really close to the surface and in big numbers. What a blast ! I can’t tell by the pictures, but were you just outside the kelp ?

Way, way inside the traditional "kelp beds" area. I am fishing over the inside kelp stringers only 40 - 50 feet deep, the outer kelp used to reach to 100'. Really it's SUP territory but the current was jamming to the south. They love the inside current especially when its piled with bait, my meter was showing solid bait top to bottom in many areas.

Mint Tady C .. That’s a Tady with a single mint chip. I have no doubt you’ve caught fish on it. How’d you do out there today ?

Totally different conditions today (Sunday). The water in that area off Little Point/Simmons was stained streaked with red tide! There were birds picking here and there, and I managed like 3 calicos in about 30 minutes on the iron. More birds and boats in deeper water, and since I enjoy the exercise, I headed way out to around 65 - 80' deep.

There were birds moving (very fast) all day out there, mixed small barracuda and areas of calicos. In the deeper water I had to switch to my swimbait to get bit, and it was really fun. Not every cast though. Green wham/fisheez on a yellow 3/4 leadhead.

It was sheet glass most of the day out there, and I worked my way north watching birds and casting - catching a bass every 15 minutes. The PM New Seaforth chum line created lots of action up near the point. At one point flocks of shearwaters, terns, pelicans and gulls all converged and it went wide open on bass. Then it stopped, current died and the boat moved. Anyway, I caught a bunch of bass and some amazingly small barracuda.

My GoPro would not turn on, so I got a few conditions photos with my phone out there. (pardon the camo sunshirt, I'm not trying to hide from the fish, no.)
