What effect does a tide like this have on the fishing in Mission Bay?

Can make it weed city, but . If the weeds and current aren't too bad, it can pull huge schools of bait in front the mouth of MB and fire the fish up along the western end of the main channel..

What Basstard and Werfless said is true. I was out drifting with the grandson yesterday and the weeds weren’t too bad but the out going current was very fast. Most of the active schools of fish were concentrated within the main channel from the mouth of the bay to about the Sea World marina near the Hubb.

Eel grass was exposed at all the usual places along most of the swimming beaches during the minus tide cycle.

If you listen to what Dj Thrills says and concentrate on fishing the shore areas at the beaches with exposed eel grass and no fishing signs (most beaches with no fishing signs are great places to fish but you really can’t fish them in the summer. In the winter no one seems to care so take advantage of the cold air and water when you can). If you fish these areas with the signs posted during the minus tides like the ones at the ski beach area you can sometimes catch so many spotties from these places that you get tired of unhooking them.

These extreme tides are fantastic for this. I find I usually do better during the transition from slack tide to incoming tide when the tides are like this. But the bite can turn on at anytime. Just keep moving around the area throwing weed less rigged hammers or grubs until you find them. Normally if you get one there’s a lot more nearby. If the bite stops start moving again till you get bit again.

Tight lines everybody and Merry Christmas!!

I almost forgot. As a P.S. to my last post I saw a guy on a boat about 75 yards away from us catch a halibut that must have been at least 36” right in front of the Hyatt just before the minimum low tide. A really nice fish/Christmas present. I don’t know who it was but nice work!!

DeAnza is totally my next stop at Mission Bay. Not accustom to reeling in too many fish let alone ones of that size but I want to give it a try.
