Fished Lake Henshaw yesterday AM from 7:30-11:30. We rented a boat and headed over to the backside of the lake. Around 8:30 the fish came up shallow and were feeding with their backs out of the water until the wind kicked up around 10:00. We hooked 6 and landed 4 with a couple over 10lbs. Best quality I’ve ever had at Henshaw. Fish bit subsurface on small black leeches and rubberleg patterns.

    Nice!

I gave up on that lake, all I ever saw was 100s of 3lbers

Ps, I’m gonna give sweetwater a go soon, if anyone wants to join me. They dont always bite but you can almost always find some

It’s definitely worth another try. The quality has gone up a lot after the high water years in 2019 and 2020

Those look like a blast on the fly.
Not on fly, but i did well last spring(2021) on the bass and crappie up there, nothing huge but good numbers.

I went and checked out sweetwater this morning. Its way low!! Which is good for fly fishing, lot's of big beaches. The lake itself was great for carpin but there were too many people and not enough real estate. Lots of carp around, but within 30 minutes of opening all shore lines have been pounded. IMO, getting away from people is the number one component to fishing for carp. So it s a nogo for me.

While waiting for a buddy I bass(gear) fished for 1 hour, and took home a nice 2lber for brunch. I also saw a guy get a big crappie on a T.rig.

If you put in some serious effort you could have a nice day fly fishing and probably get something. If you enjoy "feel" fishing for carp you could stay busy.
