Great report, way to get on them. I was out there for a couple days last week, well worth the trip, lots of 3+ pounders in backwaters right now.

Great report! I might make my way there sometime. Looking at maps it looks exciting to explore but even a little intimidating; so many channels, nooks, and crannies in that backwater area. I've watched some YouTube videos where guys are pushing their boats through networks of tunnels in the reeds to reach certain spots.

The only thing you really have worry about are sand bars and fishing the California Channel on the big weekends, jet skis are ridiculous and dangerous in that channel.

You can stay in the main lakes of Martinez and Ferguson and not have to go through any of those channels, lots of fish in those backwater lakes. Just pick any stretch of tules and reeds you feel looks good. You can also fish docks, good fish there also.

It is possible to fish up there for 50 years and never fish the same place twice. Endless opportunities, Foxes, Donkeys,Coyotes,Deer,Birds, amazing wildlife encounters. Just the opposite when the Aircraft are practicing their strafing runs at the Weapons Testing Center, I’ve seen B-2 Bombers practicing just upriver.
By the way, the River flows approximately 7 mph, to swift to kayak upriver, at least for me. There are backwaters leading to pristine little ponds everywhere. Sparce and thickets of reeds, sunken trees. You can purchase and use Shiners and use Bluegill for bait. A Fishermans’ Disneyland!
