I headed to Lake Perris on Sunday to shake off the COVID-19 lockdown rust.
The gate opened at 7 am with about 100-120 vehicles in line.....mostly non boaters. It took an hour to to make it onto the water.

I started throwing reaction baits near rocky banks and brush......nothing! Tried Senko’s in the brush.....had a few bites but never hooked the fish....just the brush.

No fish from 8:15 am - 12:30 pm. Decided to stay and fight it out.....hit a stretch of bank with flooded brush using a 6 inch worm and BOOM....the bite was on. By 3pm I had landed 12 fish.....mostly 2-3 lbs. I had been fishing in 4-6 feet of water and made my final cast into 10 feet of water in same area. After a couple of twitches with the rod tip, I felt pressure and set the hook.....started cranking and then she jumped about 15 feet from the boat. Now I was in panic mode because I saw how big she was......I buried my rod into the water to keep her down......3-4 minutes of cranking and her stripping off several feet of drag had me exhausted and shaking nervously! I finally got her close enough to the boat to get the net under her......finally I was rewarded with a Lake Perris beauty.

25 inches long and 10.3 lbs......this made the drive from San Diego well worth the trip!!

Yeah, it's quite a feeling of exhilaration when she's finally in the net, feels like you can't breath during the fight.
    Great job.

    Wow!

Fun was that ride home. I would've been talking to myself, planning my internet report, singing out loud.

nice job I left a good dad bite there before it closed..gets tough to soak dads when it is 90 degrees in the summer. Most of my DD fish have come from that place...great work!!!
How bad was the lake lice zipping around in circles?
