Went back to Wholford yesterday starting around 11:45 am. 20 min after the first cast, I caught a decent size catfish. As the day went on, the tiny channel cats were eating my bait alive, while I kept tossing them back. There was another fisherman on a boat, who pulled up to me in the middle of the lake, asking what I was fishing for. While chatting, showed me his stringer. He had 2 massive blues, that were black in color, looking prehistoric lol. I wanted to ask him if he's the one that's always on Wholford's monthly Whopper contest every month catching those 10+ lb blues. Everytime I look at the reports, it's always the same guy catching the biggest catfish. He told me he fishes Wholford all time, and gives them to people on the shorelines that never catch anything, and always catch them that big. So it just may be him getting those free boat rentals every month for the biggest fish specie. I was actually surprised he told me where to go drift for the bigger blues. Pretty much in medium to shallower depth of water. Overall, it was a decent day for me. They were a little smaller, but very satisfied. I headed over to Dixon to go clean since it's nearby.

Nice report! Good eats for sure!
So you were actually drift fishing for them? What bait were they chewing on?
I was there last weekend and usually do pretty good in deeper water but only caught baby cats that day.

Yes I was drifting for them. I tell you what, it's a lovely sight watching the poles being hit hard and bending when one is on the line. I was using fresh sardines I got from the bait pit at the Oceanside harbor. I used mackerel last weekend and did well to. The bigger the bait, the bigger the fish.

Sounds like fun! We’re you using a Carolina rig, with just heavy enough of a weight to stay near the bottom?

nice, while everyone's fishing trout you just keep catching those cats. How are you fishing them at this time of year? They still patrolling the coves and shallow water or you suspending your bait in the deeper water?
