Well I’m heading back to San Jose State to start my third year. Everything is going to be online unfortunately. I’ll probably come back down again around early November.

Well my last day of summer bay fishing was absolutely insane. We used fresh macks in mb and fished from 7PM to 12AM. Cooper really did catch a massive Black Sea bass on half a mackerel. I posted the picture for about 10 minutes but was warned that I could get in trouble so I deleted it just to be safe. If you ever see me fishing in mission bay I will show you the picture lol. Throughout the rest of the night Coop caught a few more bat rays and I caught two horned sharks and a small bat ray.

Pardon - why could you get in trouble for simply catching that fish?

Good luck to you up there Tmaio.. going to miss your awesome reports from the bay. Maybe Cooper will pick up the slack and keep the posts going.. This may be a dumb question, but if your studies are online, why couldn’t you just do them from here in San Diego ?

This is Q & A from the DFW , photographing-no-take-species , May shed some light on the subject , last one I " Caught " was on a 3/4 day boat off Delmar . The captain and deck hands were very concerned about lifting the head out of the water as to avoid a boat / personal citation we opened the rail gate and released in the water . That fish could have swallowed a soccer ball . WR

Technically not even supposed to remove them from the water. Basically gotta try to unhook them still in the water. And the larger models can get seriously injured just by being out of the water, as their body cannot support their weight.

Thanks man! Yeah I could do my studies from home but I got friends up in SJ and I got a new apartment that my financial aid will cover so I want to be up there for at least a couple of months.

IUCN redlist has black seabass as "Critically Endangered." They used to be plentiful in our waters way back in the day. Almost fished them to extinction as they are very slow growing. Current regulations don't want you to take them out of the water because with fish of their size just spending a minute out of the water can lead to its internal organs being crushed under their own weight. Hopefully their populations will recover to the point that we can take them again. For now, if you want to catch them gotta go to Mexico.

Seemed like a very productive summer for you here. You can go back holding your head up high, got plenty of fish stories for people up there to tell. You’ll be back in two blinks of an eye ;)
