Keeping 5 legal bass is not a problem as long as you have payed for your State License and day use permit.
Selling bass to who for what? Meat, stocking a private lake?? Tilapia is so good and cheap that doesn't really make sense. Not even sure you could recover your day use cost not to mention your time and tackle.
Keeping an 8lb pound fish sucks. Not illegal but bad form. That's a breed stock female and need to be left in the lake and left alone while spawning.
We as a community should advocate slot limits and stop sight fishing. Blind casting for bed fish is unavoidable but ripping large females off the nest and disrupting the spawn isn't very sporting. There is a lot of pressure on the bass in Southern California and if we all want to continue to enjoy bass fishing we are all going to have to adapt.
I would be sad if my son had to look forward to the bass stock every week.
    That's my nickel.

    Yes that is true.
We have identified some who are taking limits every day the lake is open. not only are they taking full limits for 3 or 4 people every day they are larger class of fish. one specific groups I spoke with told me that they release the small ones and only keep over 5 lbs. on that day they were leaving with 3 full 5 gallon buckets, all large bass. I have also personally documented a few float tubers who are taking more than limite almost every day the lake is opened. 2 of these left the lake with 16 fish I could see yesterday.
while taking limits is legal and can be good for the overall population of fish taking full limits every day is not. It is illegal to take and poses more than for personal consumption. I seriously doubt any family is consuming 20 to 30 lbs of bass daily. it is also illegal to sell or even give away fish to maintain your possession at the legal limit.
This is the same thing that destroyed the large black crappie population at some of the other city lakes.

Unfortunately it is true, there are group's taking legal limits of bass every day the lake is open. legal poaching by definition is taking legal limits daily in excess of for personal consumption and or for sale. this is what a DFG warden
told us recently. It is also illegal to sell your catch without a comercial license.
I dont know for sure that these fish are being sold but when a person is renting a boat every day it is expensive. When that same person rents a boat every day week after week it starts looking like a busness operation. when that same person starts upgrading to larger boats and bringing more people to take more fish it looks like a profitable enterprise...

If we know who they are why don't we just deny them a boat rental or fishing permit?

CalTip is your best avenue for reporting these actions.... 888-334-2258 just saying

    https://www.wildlife.ca.gov/enforcement/caltip

There is also an app that you can download or text your report to 847411 using CALTIP then your report

I know back in the day people would keep some bass in the well then pop them into a golf course pond or private pond.

Or, they could be shady and had a club tournament the next day and wanted to make sure they had a good bag to start with. Anyone have a club tournament on Sunday where someone weighted in a fish close to 8#'s?

Scumbags, this has to stop, shouldnt be hard to get DFW there to start checking anglers. It dissapoints me that people behave this way. I have also noticed an influx of people looking like they are raking the lake from the shore. I saw several with deep sea poles and shiners in the boat doc cove filling multiple five gallon buckets with bass on friday

I wonder if he had a ranch pond at home and was bringing the 8# back for brood stock. People transplant fish like that pretty regular I bet. Just a thought

Edit...just saw oh da shiz already said this

gen rules and regs say no fishing from the boat dock or with in 100 ft of the doc, 35 mph max and max speed with in 100 ft is 5 mph as with the same when within 100 ft of another water craft which all of the above are not regulated or adhered to just like all the other lakes

There are cameras watching the boat docks. I believe they are monitored and record for evidence. Get as much info as possible and cal CalTip. If people are harvesting more than the legal limit it will not last long. Fines are stiff.

    easy fix don't allow shiners
and ENFORCE existing rules and laws
    that won't happen
look at santee poway dixon or any other
lake in SD if you look you'll see violations
    netting fish--illegal
    snagging fish---illegal
    keeping fowl hooked fish--illegal
    more then 2 poles--illegal
i saw a youtube video of dixon the guy had a gaff
    freshwater---illegal
gill nets were found at hodges this year
    anything done nope
F&G don't care lake staff can't or won't do anything
all you can do is ***** online and as usual
    nothing will get done
they can make 2 to 3 hundred $ per person selling fish
a 1 lb trout sells for $6.99 lb in a store
what do you think they would pay for a 7lb bass or catfish
15 or 20 bucks and this is the legal take you're seeing
how many more are you not seeing
remember canyon lake three guys caught
with over 300 fish and no licence
woohoo 100 dollar fine and loss of license
    THEY HAD NO LICENCE
    DON'T FORGET TO VOTE
never mind that won't help either
ah screw it i'm going fishing

actually we have invited some not to return but we can not deny fishing permits only the city workers could do that.
@oh da shiz is correct caltips is the best way. even if we stop them from renting they find another way and they need to be stoped by the proper process or they will continue in other places at other times. just wait till spring, these same people will once again be raping the crappie populations at other lakes unless they get their rights to fish in the state revoked...

We are working with them and now directly with DFG wardens, but there is the burden of proof... we have to document repeated cases dates and times...

You are correct @sherpa for most lakes and regions the legal possession is 2 times daily bag limits.

I worked for the Museum of Man when I was a young and they went to
Scripps Institute of Oceanography and tested fish that were preserved from the turn of the century 1800's and found just as much Mercury in the fish back then SwordFish it is a natural thing not new
