I went on a scouting run this morning, 08:30-09:30, my normal beat.
Out of the Ponto day lot I found crabs right away. Big bed of pinky fingernail sized softshells w/o roe. I kept a few and walked south throwing a jerkbait. Salad was not bad, current flowing north, swell was reasonable.
Crab beds thinned out as I got closer to Grandview, but the quality of crab was much better. Thumbnail size with roe, 50/50 hardshell to softshell. By the time I was 200 yards south of Grandview the bait belt was ready for me to switch over to c-rig.

Picked up 1 hand-sized BSP and that was it. Still haven't seen any beans sliding in the skinny water, and the skinny water is looking pretty good now. Sand has come back onto the shoreline, a few nice big flats between high and low tide lines. An incoming mid-tide with some direct sun should be ripe for a sight fishing sesh...Its just a waiting game at this point.

Only other mentionable event was finding a purple stripe jelly. First time I've seen one of these dudes on this stretch of beach. It was floating in knee-deep water.

Is that a fanny pack sand crab holder? I might have to get one of those. Normally I use my pockets, but that can lead to smelly clothes, or crabs in the washing machine if I forget about tossing them all out after a session.

I fished TP a couple of times this week. Crab beds were small, and they moved fast. Like you, the bite was slow. I only got one YFC and two perch last session.

Hey Andy - kinda-sorta fanny pack holder. Its a Frabill bait holder and I wear this belt around my waist. Much better than pockets. I like it because I can see what I've got and then pick-n-choose which crabs I want to pin on the hook. Average size without roe go out in the trough, perfect sized with roe go under the nose of ones I can see.

Your reports are vivid reminder to me that I need to step out onto the sand again...

I have the same belt pouch, it's great for sand crabs. Those crabs look great, now just need the fish to show up!

Don't let FOMO work to hard...I suspect conditions will remain about the same up until Memorial weekend.

Was able to get the fam out for a beach hike at TP yesterday afternoon. Surprised to see zero anglers between flat rock to the main parking lot. Looked to be a few fishable holes as the tide was rolling in, even with the onshore breeze.

I noticed zero salad and plenty of sandcrab carcasses as well...

    Thanks for the report.
My beach fishing in the last year pretty much feels like mental abuse so I have really curtailed it. I need to get in at least a few more sessions in the next month.
I’m hoping to catch a bean on the fly before I leave, so let’s hope they show up.

I'll keep you updated and send a text if I see any. There was 1 guy w/ fly rod in the surf with me...he was whipping at skunks :emoji_disappointed:
