Fished with SDFF for a slow pick today ended up with 5 bass and a 3ft smooth hound shark. He got into 50 yards of backing and was a 10 to 15 minute fight on the 2 weight.orange/ brown clousers today 1016190922_HDR.jpg 1016190858_HDR.jpg 1016190840.jpg 1016190933_HDR.jpg

I'm not even sure what to say. Okay, you've had the 2wt fun. Isn't it about time you get serious and start fishing a 5/6 ?

Guy is having a great time with the lighter stuff, Creek .. sheesh..

captwoody .. ever think about using a short section of leadcore line instead of a more complicated method? Seems like with all those line splices, something could go awry.. I do know they make leadcore in a variety of strengths and weights, so there might be something available to suit your needs, only curious if this is a direction you could consider...

Damn dude.. 3 foot smoothie ripped drag on my baitcaster.. I can only imagine how fun it would be on fly gear. Did it jump at all?

Didn't jump it did the spin when it got close.but the run was awesome and I took craigs advice and did not overbend rod, If I did not have my brand new Redington rise reel with its awesome drag I probably would have lost it. Been upgrading my reels because of such and in the last 2 weeks have added a Lamson 5/6 3 pac and a Redington rise 3/4. I am waiting on a Redington Behemoth 4/5 to come in that I will put my good line on for when I am getting serious. Werfless leadcore is horrible to cast and I am working on improving the splices

How do you like the Rise vs the Lamson?

Both are great but at 1 week and a trip each to soon to tell. But rise performed flawlessly on the sharks big run

Thanks. I bought 3/4 Lamson from Strouds that I've never used. I'm debating switching it for a quieter reel.

The Behemoth and Rise are not sealed reels but both have better (smoother) drag systems than the Lamson Liquid and Remix.

Though some sources on the internet state that the Rise is sealed, Redington does not make that claim. It is shielded, like the Behemoth, which is not the same as sealed.

We have had some customers purchase the Rise for bonefish trips and have no reports of problems. Y

All the Lamson Reels except Litespeed (at least their specs don’t identify the light speed as having a sealed drag) have sealed drag systems. The more expensive models seem to be sealed better, which is generally the case with all brands. I have seen a few Liquids that have suffered from water intrusion into the drag, though this usually happens from rinsing the reel with the spool off but some people have said they never did this. Bit it is easy to take apart and check unlike most sealed systems.

    I like all three reels.
