My father passed away a few weeks ago.

He lived an interesting life, worked at restaurants in London, Madrid and Paris. One of those restaurants landed him an opportunity in Chicago which brought the rest of the family, me included, to the US. He had his own restaurant in Wisconsin, a cooking show and a few other things.

Eventually he ended up living the last 13 yrs or so in San Diego. After his first wife (my mother) passed, he married his 2nd wife who lived in San Diego (she passed too). That's how he made it down here.

He did like to fish - he told me about some fishing in the river that ran through Paris and the one through his hometown in France. He was mainly fresh water river, but here he liked to fish Mission Bay. When I was a kid we fished a few times in Wisconsin - sometimes the river, once or twice Lake Michigan from a jetty that was super long with a lighthouse at the end. I wasn't very good at fishing back then either.

Here are a few pics of him over the years....

Yeah - that one of the family is interesting. The house in the background is still there.

We're all family here no matter what our view points are.
Sharing life's stories is part of the grieving process.

Old school pics are the best. Kids nowadays have no idea how different things were in our day. Pics - real pics is just one way to show them.

Mom recently died for me.. this past May. Just now going through alot of the pictures she had.. some on paper, but most on slides. Finding a working projector was a chore. But it sure has been cool to see things that I just dont remember.

    Great thread. Thank you.

So sorry, Mike! Are you the one in his lap or to his side?

Sorry for your loss Creek . I suspected you had something like that going on.
We had to empty out my father in laws apartment before moving him into a facility. One of the things I brought home was a slide projector. But that was over a year ago. Too bad I can't help you out.

Yes a lot of them. They can get a bit complex - beyond what I am comfortable doing. When the list of ingredients gets to 10 or more, I'm out.

I'm good. Mom leaving in the manner which she did was exactly what she wanted. We as a family were so heartbroken, but so happy for her.

Found a projector online.. used. Kodak.

Yes, some where I have a pic of mom and kids with grandparents at the airport for our first trip to the US. We are all dressed very nicely. Dad was already in the US.

Yes you did need to share those pictures as it's part of the normal grieving process. We all have family that have passed and we need to remember them and the times/experiences we had. I truly respect the Mexican culture with their observance of Day of the Dead. Maybe gone from this earth but not from our hearts. God Bless.

We ate well when I was a kid. Don't be surprised if you see me eat pizza with a knife and fork.

I’m glad you did. I never knew my father. He die when I was 3. Most all of my immediate family has passed. None of them made it passed 58 yrs. I’m 55 I hope to break the record. My only remaining brother is 52 with bad heart.
It’s going to be weird if I’m the last one left. Already I getting nervous about dying. I don’t want to die I’m still having too much fun. It sure has been on my mind a lot lately. Old_Rookie sorry for you loss. Spend some time grieving and get back on with the thing call life and try to enjoy it as much as possible. We don’t have much time left.
Life is good. I think I’ll go fishin :)
