I had a bunch of old leftovers from my kid's birthday party, so I hit up La Jolla after work to try and get some dinner, Werfless style. Beefed up trout rod, spider hitch-nail rig, market shrimp and chum, trying to mimic everything I've read on this forum.

Waves were pretty high, and I had trouble keeping my bait and line from crashing into the rocks. I think I got the hang of it, and was rewarded with a chunky opaleye. My first one ever, and first table fair from SD... first from the ocean, actually. I caught a small palm size one shortly after and threw it back. Not sure if I was getting a decent number of strikes, or just the waves/rocks tugging at my line. Lots of questions, lots to learn. I'll have to meet up with Coach one of these days when our schedules align.

I left after 2 hours and got a great sunset as always (filtered picture). The Mrs. cleaned and cooked the fish which was tasty.

Beautiful fish and SS... Almost the time of year for that spot to kick out some donkeys, that is the most fun bite ever. Nice work despite conditions and tide laying against you
