Got on the fish in LJ even though the salad has been terrible. Managed one from north of TP even though the salad was bad there too. Got a few fish, got the kids out of the house too for a bit today and yesterday. Took a walk with the girl on Friday, she helped me get set up to bbq for the MMFC pickle run, we started Friday evening walking north at TP and lucked into a skunk breaking sargo off S DM. Fun stuff this weekend, caught some good opaleye today too. All in all, another few days in paradise...

Can't beat that when getting out with family. Haven't seen many sargo taken from open surf so nice going. Thx for sharing the vid.

Thanks for the report! Pretty decent sargo, I had no idea you could get them from the surf

Some of the reef areas seem to have quite a few

Nice job on the Sargo. Great that you got your kids out. I'd be interested in hear more about that barbecue. BBQ is my thing. I did two cooks this weekend and have another scheduled for this coming.

jjdbike , I do the cooking for the Mad Macks Fishing Club, Shorepounders, King of the Beach and (now) the WTF/World Team Fishing events when I can. Can be as simple as some smoked sausages cooked over mesquite all the way up to adobada with the fixings. Depends on the budget and which group is having the event. Usually I just take some donations and it will cover the whole thing, always a good time.

Midnightpass , I enjoy my time with the kids. I have an often dangerous job, never know when that last day might be. Each new day we live is yesterday's gift to us..

Beautiful outing. Beach seems quite flat so I guess there was some structure close to shore. Awesome sargo, especially from surf!
Can you get them with sand crabs? Or has to be shrimp?

Sand crabs work fine. They will usually bite shrimp though

Have had good luck historically getting sargo from the Del Mar reefs, often at or even after dark.
