Fished LJ on a sunset session with William Ritchie for a bit. Conditions were awful, crossed out swell, heavy current, big swell, kelp was full, attached to bottom. Not ideal. Had tons of trimmings and skin pieces, some YFT bloodline and a bonito belly or two. Started off with shrimp for bait, but the bait thieves were ruthless, so we switched to belly strips. Zero halfmoon, opaleye, zebras, etc.. pretty sure the thieves were either wrasse, senoritas or blacksmith.. oh well.. caught a few vermin, including one donkey.. maybe five fish total? Oh well. Honestly, not real sure if he caught a couple or not. Very nice evening.. thanks for coming down and casting with me for a bit

Conditions 20 miles north were the same (minus the rocks). Tough to find a spot that was calm enough to hold a fish or two! Scratched out a handful of YFC and beans. Sunset was good.

All this week there is a waxing gibbous to full moon this week, with an incoming tide. Good conditions?

If the tri directional swell chokes off or cleans up.. that was like fishing in a damn washing machine...

How's the fishing in the late afternoon? I'd love to join you and learn something, but I'm only free 3-6PM on weekdays.

I just got a Safina Pro 50 per your recommendation. 10 lb mono good enough? Or 15? I have both. What kind of rod do you recommend?

When you chum, do you toss it by hand, or use a launcher? A lot? Little? I throw away so much table scraps...

3-6 is a bit early for me, but I might be able to get out one day next week a little ahead of schedule. My heel has been bothering me, so I haven't been fishing jetty type areas for a bit, trying to let it heal or at least not get worse. I chum by hand, and cut my chum by hand. Food scraps are awesome, you just have to be prepared for all kinds of ridiculous bycatch, lol. The generalist eaters will come out in tremendous bulk: blacksmith, smelt, wrasse, opaleye and those spiky orange a-holes come out in mind boggling numbers sometimes. When I fish the cliffs, I try to find an area to funnel my chum through a narrow spot out onto a big flat, reef, kelp bed or trough so I can use the power of chum to concentrate fish in a smaller area where I can intercept them with my bait. on the jetty type spots, I prefer to chum an area uptide of a kelp bed, obstruction or trough to draw those fish out and up into my lap where I can target them with less probability of break offs, I fish a few feet off the end of my rod

Me too, and to answer your other question, my 15# stick is I think the old version of the ugly Stik 102
