i haven't really seen a local lake bait fish thread yet and i visit new local lakes all the time and wonder where to start so from my experience and transitioning to the fall in winter with mostly swim-bait fishing i wanted to give some lure choice options for someone that is hesitate on what colors to pick so here are some baits profiles for lakes i have personally spend sometime at .

Cuyamaca - green sunfish | black crappie | rainbow trout | young crap
    San v - silverside
El cap - silverside | black crappie
Murray - shad | red ear sunfish
    Miramar - shad | bluegill

Lake Ramona has Sculpin and Bluegill. I would think most lakes have Bluegill.

Otay has Shimofuri Goby and I suspect Murray, Miramar Dixon & San V do too. Sculpin are in all our lakes.

Baby bass, Bluegill and Silversides for sure at Miramar. I have never seen a shad there.
There may be some in there....but as anyone ever snagged a shad by accident or actually seen shad(no, not silversides...but actually shad?)
If anyone can take a picture of a shad that came out of lake Miramar it would sure surprise me.

Loveland is a primarily threadfin shad lake. If you go there during the right time of year, you can practically walk across them in the coves, there are so many. The lake also has a sizeable bluegill population, as well as some crappie and crawdads.
