The first 3 days up here I went for some variety, hit up Crowley, Mary, Hot Creek, and the San Joaquin. Mary, it's obvious they didn't fill it with big fish like the past couple years..I got numbers but no size. Hot Creek, good as it gets! Fished Screenshot_20190819-183130_Photos.jpg it Saturday afternoon in some nasty winds, fish loved it! Grasshoppers everywhere..I threw hoppers and caddis patterns, got into some nice 14"-15" browns..if I could only figure out how to land them through the late summer weed beds! Super fun day! Hit up Crowley Sunday...all the shops in town and the guides I talked to last week said the North end is dead, don't go there..so I went there! Got there in the morning, no one there! I figured people would show up later, nope, me and one other tuber had the whole north end all to ourselves..all day..crazy! Don't tell anyone..the fish are up there! We pulled Punk Perch and Hornbergs in 20' of water to find them. Didn't find any cutties, but there probably over in McGee with the crowds of fisherman! I'll take the fat rainbows! I spent today on the San Joaquin, so nice to be relaxing with nature! I fished the Devils Post Pile area..also all alone, except for the deer! I love that valley! Probably got 30, 8"-12" browns and a couple bows. All on drys, mostly caddis and bwo's. The mornings are kind of slow, middle of the day is happening! I'm doing Crowley tommorrow..still got a week to go..hope my casting shoulder holds up!! 20190818_115015.jpg 20190818_101956.jpg 20190819_140014.jpg 20190819_132929.jpg 20190819_125551.jpg 20190817_175403.jpg 20190817_165357.jpg

Awesome. Hopper bite is fun. Couple of years back, I was using a Hopper as an indicator on Hot Creek and a nice Brown decided he liked that better then the nymph below it. I need to get back up there.

Every step you take at Hot Creek now, 10 or 15 hoppers take off..the fish are definitely taking a hopper imitation over a nymph!

Fished Crowley today..a very different day than Sunday! Found a large school of fish suspended around 10' deep in 26 feet of water. Every so often one would break the surface, chasing perch fry , I assume. I threw a bunch of different patterns at them with no interest..until I tried on a hornberger with a hares ear trailer. They had no interest in them stripped, but I discovered they wanted them dead sticked. I found that out when I cast out, set the rod down and immediately got grabbed..and then I proceeded to break him off! I retied, cast out and proceeded to break off the next fish..big fish, not smart! That pretty much cleared out the small bay I was in! I went back to draggin and stripping along North Landing and Green Banks. All my fish actually landed today came out of 20'-25' of water...not my favorite depth for stripping! Most of the fished favored a hares ear over the streamers. A fun day, almost 90 degrees on the lake, breeze didnt come up til 3:00..toasty! The Browns showed up today! 20190820_151435.jpg 20190820_125248.jpg 20190820_125228.jpg
