Took my fishing gear and kayak 39 miles past Lake Murray this morning. When I arrived there(the Lake of D & K), I decided to toss some top water baits. Using a Sammy and Gunfish I was able to pick up 4 bass which is always fun. I wished I arrived a little earlier and may have had better top action. I then used a variety of reaction baits and picked up 2 more bass. The sun was out now and it was time to soak some worms and craw baits. The action was sporadic as I worked the shorelines, but here and there I picked up bass. I actually gave up on using a drop shot as 2 straight bass I caught were very small. I started alternating using craw baits and plastic worms the rest of the time. I worked points as best I could(wind and kayak don't go together). I was catching about an equal amount of bass between the plastic worms and craw baits and because I have caught a few healthier bass on craw baits at other lakes, I decided to stick to it for a while.
I tossed a craw bait into about maybe 18 feet of water and within a few feet of working it in I felt a strong tap and I set the hook and I felt I had a nice bass when he started fighting. Then she came out of the water and seeing her and the splash she made, I thought immediately DD! I nervously played her in cautiously as she jumped 2 more times and each time I thought she would come unbuttoned. The battle ended as I lifted her into the kayak(she had a huge head/mouth) which felt so good! I then put her in my net for a bit to keep her in the water(don't have a live well in my kayak). I weighed her at 9 1/2 lbs. It always crosses a bass fisherman's mind that if I only caught her a month or so ago.....but even though she was spawned out....9 1/2 lbs is still a nice bass. After some pics, I safely released her and hope whoever catches her the next time has as much fun as I did catching her today. I have not posted all my trips to D & K but sorry I just had to post this one. :)

    3 pics of the 9 1/2lb bass:

Sorry...just a close-up to show how big her head
    was.....and some battle scars

Ended up catching 16 bass and the drive home was a pleasant one to say the least. :)

Winner winner, chicken dinner! A big ol Miss Piggy! I would of needed new shorts each time she jumped! Fortunately, my 2 biggest fish ever, decided not to jump..saved my heart! Glad you got a beast, you deserve it!

Wow! I was in the same spot on Saturday and couldn't buy a bite. That is a HUGE bass VinnyBass you were due for a big'un! :emoji_slight_smile:. Great big head and body. Like you said, if it was prespawn or spawn that would have definitely been a DD. Thanks for the report and pics. Tight lines always, my friend.

Actually that’s funny because we spent the night on Thursday at Harrahs Casino because Deb was off on Friday so I didn’t get the fish D&K lake and that is why I went Sunday. To be honest I lost lots of money gambling that I could have used at Tackle Warehouse....I shouldn’t complain because it gave me the opportunity to fish yesterday and I got lucky.(and Deb came out a little ahead anyway $) :)

I wonder why they get those dots? I blew the dot on your bass up on my computer and the one that was on my fish and they’re different... but I wonder what causes that?

Can't imagine a fish more than twice as big as Vinny's!
