Got out with just my son yesterday for about 3 hours on the boat rental. Managed about 8 bass. 6 spotties and 2 calico. My son hurt his hand and has to wear a cast so he was doing just bloodworms. White curly tail grub on a drop shot worked well for me. Looks like the Sargo have left as we were catching loads of them a month ago on blood worms. Also realizing how crazy the YFC bite was last year. I’ve caught just one this year in Mission Bay.
YFC are still there, been catching quite a few on ghost shrimp the past month. Haven’t found a sargo myself yet though.
I think I was just lucky and fished where they were last year. I probably just need to move around a bit more. The rock wrasse seem to follow me around though. Damn bait stealers. They love ghost shrimp too!
