Hey guys. Recent forum stalker and first time poster. Moved to LA from NY in January. Used to fish for stripped bass in Montauk. Now I surf fish Malibu pretty regularly. Vacationing in Mission Beach this weekend. Day 1 has already blown away all my socal surf fishing to date.

7:22pm on an incoming high tide caught this 18in yellowfin croaker! New PB. Catch and released one much smaller earlier this year. Wish I had a scale, but traveled lightly. Caught on a C-Rig - 1oz egg and a #4 baitholder hook on about 10in of leader. Bait of choice - Gulp! sandworms.

Can't wait to hit the incoming tide in the morning. Hope to have some more photos to share! Maybe even run into some of you guys out there this weekend. Say what's up!

    Setup for anyone interested:

    - 9' St Croix Triumph Surf Rod (Med/Fast)
    - Okuma Stratus V 5500 Spinning Reel
    - 12lb P-Line CXX Moss Green (Mono)
    - C-Rig with #4 baitholder hooks & Gulp sandworms or LC 110 Metalic Sardine

Thanks all! Line was in this morning at 7am and fished a little after high tide until 9am.

Started off with a small perch on a a C-Rig. CPR. Looks worse in the photo.

Waves were light so I switched over to the LC 110. That's when things got big. Had another croaker on the line, I honestly believe it was bigger than last night. Just as I was bringing it onto shore it came off the hook!

Tossed the LC for a while. Around 8:30am bam! Bat ray! Let me tell you, what a fight! My wife happened to be on the beach with her parents when it happened. Great for all to see. Thing snagged its wings real well though on the LC hooks flapping around. Of course it drew a crowd and it was my first ray...A couple of dudes on the beach were super cool and helped me with removing the hooks.

I'll see if I can figure out how to upload my wife's instagram video ... though in instagram fashion it say "stringray" across it lol.

Great morning! Look forward to dropping line this evening.
