Welcome to SDfish. Good group here, plenty of knowledgeable, experienced and helpful people here.

It's been a tough winter by most accounts so dont feel too bad. I think I have 1 fish to show for my last 4 sessions. Between storms, high winds, plenty of salad added to the colder winter water it hasn't exactly been a recipe for productive outings. Most consistent bite for me over the last 2 months has been targeting spotties at night, though that has fallen off for me recently too.. stick at it and you will find some trends and more success. Areas turn on and off, if a spot isnt biting for several sessions, try elsewhere and mix it up. Good luck

I hear you. I skunked majority of December but it started heating up again a couple weeks ago. I can only get out once a week between work and distance learning with the kid. Caught some spotties and a random bonito. Bonito swallowed the lure. So I bled and iced him. I’m usually a CnR guy but he was tasty.

You're not doing bad if you got a winter bonito!

I appreciate that!! Had my son there to watch his dad be a bad *** for a few minutes. Haha. It’s different when he’s there as opposed to me showing him pics when I get home. We’re heading out now for a short one. I’ll report back.

Skunked it. Only had an hour. Choppy, murky water. Wind in my face. Had the kid camped out in the car so I couldn’t cover much ground. Not the best conditions. Ehh better than sittin at home.

with all the great advice, I went out this evening to Quivira point. Saw crazy fire dancers in the park who summoned the fish and meet another angler tjthegreat1

02/03- 5:30pm-7:30pm- dropping tide to 1ft. - spider hitch rig with a 1oz weight and 4 mosquito hook - cut shrimp

with the 15# mono you cant get the double line through the hook eye, so just cut half the loop off. I was worried it would wrap around the line but I guess it did ok.

caught 1 sbb 7-8" and 1 unknown species - 5-6" (to me). eventually, i'll figure out how to take better photos.

Nice! Glad to see you ended up with another. Those checkers(calico) put up a decent fight even when theyre small. I ended up getting a couple myself to shake the skunk. It was nice meeting you and getting to rap out. Hope to see you out there again!

To avoid the doubled line through the tiny hook eye issue, you can thread the hook onto your line before you tie the hitch, so it's pre-positioned onto the loop.

Awesome to hear you jumped right back at it and prevailed. Feels good. I was talking to AzImport and I’ll probably try the same rig with shrimp. He gave me some other solid options of where to hit up.

That was my thought as well. Actually my first thought was “that’s a big *** Mack!!” Then when I realized what it was I thought “what the heck are you still doing here bro...?” Then I thought “Crap... I have to empty my kids snacks out of the cooler and get some ice immediately.”

    Haha!! Harbor Island. East side.

I gave it another go today. Same tactic. 20g iron and give it the beans!! 45 degrees to my left and crossed my fingers. No go. Had some yellowtail sashimi for dinner to help mend the skunk. Happens.
