Went to Fiesta Island at 5:00. Basically fished everywhere with the wind to my back. First spot had a zillion short bites, then got a modest bump. Mistook it for a short bite again, reeled slowly, and there was weight on the line. Set the hook and the fight was on! Pulling drag, the whole 9 yards, to yield a 21" halibut, nice start to the day. Stayed at the spot for a bit longer for a micro sandy (hence all the short bites)....
Rest of Fiesta yielded 1 spotty (was thinking I would have two spotty skunks in a row before that fish!)
Decided to try off the rocks around Dana after dark. Pretty slow, was gonna go in a few minutes if nothing came up. Well, then it happened. Hooked up to something with attitude -- thought it was a hali or possessed corbina or something. Several runs later I horse in my first ever corvina -- it wasn't on top water or anything, but I can see the allure of targeting those amazing fish....

All caught on t-rig new penny ZMan curlytail with 1/4oz red tungsten bullet weight and bead, 10lb mono. 4hr session so numbers were lacking, but I'll take it!

I know I harvested the corvina (22" BTW) but don't worry, 1 fish in 2.5 yr won't decimate the population, and I won't divulge the exact spot.

Can't wait to feed the family!

    Tight lines!

Congrats, that's a nice size to get for your first, how was the taste and how did you cook it? It's nice to know you can get them with the z-man's new penny curtails I've been wondering if there were any fish that didn't like them?
